Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens

One Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA 15213

Educators are invited to this unique professional development opportunity at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. The Building Compassionate Learning Communities Project (BCLC), along with Mt. Lebanon School District and Falk Laboratory School present an evening of savoring and awe, and mindful awareness practices both in classroom and natural settings. This event hopes to cultivate seeds of self-compassion for all who attend.

Self-compassion and self-care are necessary components of our overall well-being.  Educators and caregivers spend much of their time caring for others. It’s essential we nourish ourselves in order to show up fully for others.

(Act 48 hours will be offered.)

Psychology teacher Tina Raspanti (Mt. Lebanon) will review the science of savoring and awe and share evidence-based practices of savoring the natural world. Mindfulness and Yoga instructor Leah Northrop (Falk School) will guide participants through a mindful walking practice in both indoor and outdoor settings, and invite participants to create space for these practices in their daily lives.

The event is free to attendees and includes access to Phipps for the evening. (They are open until 10:00 p.m.) Space is limited to 24 participants.

Special Note: Phipps Conservatory will be offering a "Kids Night Out," in their nature lab during the same time frame. Registration for that event is separate, please visit the Phipps website for more information and registration.
